If you are sick to death of trying to climb through GoDaddy's horrible ad-filled interface to do anything, you need to move to Doteasy for great service, helpful staff and, now, lovely webdesign.

They warn you that your discounted intro price will change to the standard price when you renew for year 2. Fine . What they don't tell you is that in year 3 you will see another 35% increase. That is what I consider predatory pricing. They understand the pain and challenge of changing a website host, so they gouge you each renewal period, presuming you will either not notice the % increase, or not be willing to go through the effort of switching companies.

I have been using Doteasy for almost two decades, and for the majority of that time there were no complaints. However in the last few years things have been going downhill fast. A reliable, bare-bones hosting and domain service has now become a realm of microtransactions and surprise billings.

I have two domains registered - I'll just call them "site A" and "site B".

Site A was just a simple site. I bought a domain - with basic hosting - for $25/year. I didn't mind paying $25/year (plus foreign transaction fee, since it's in Canada and I'm in the US) for this. However this year it seems they separated the two - I noticed a $45 charge on my credit card, even though I had renewed my domain for two years. They changed the hosting plan without contacting me, and charged me. That was annoying, but okay.

Site B was the breaking point. This was my business site. I used basic hosting for a while then decided to upgrade it to unlimited hosting for $15/month. This was supposed to include PHP and MySQL access and support. And that was fine for a while as well. But about two years ago, my site was going haywire. Turns out my hosting server was out of date. I contacted DotEasy and they said I would have to PAY for the upgrade of THEIR server. It made me wonder why I pay a monthly fee, if it doesn't get updated as needed!

Finally, what broke me is that early adopters are being penalized! This year it cost $25/year to renew my domain name, for both sites. However, if I were to register a NEW site today, it cost only $15 (for renewal! That's not counting the $5 first year intro rate), and it's FREE with unlimited hosting. But I have to pay $25 for both sites, even site B which HAS unlimited hosting.

And it's not the money that's the problem. It's the constant increasing of prices with decrease of support.

I finally decided to transfer my account and found I had to pay to unlock the accounts - this was another weird thing, because anytime I renewed my domain I was offered "domain locking" for another $7/year. I had been told this "domain locking" feature would allow me to lock my domain and keep it safe. I never bothered to do it, but I always felt unsecure that my domain was not locked, because that is how DotEasy advertised it. But when I went to transfer the domain, I was told it WAS "locked". The monthly fee allows you to UNlock it, so you can transfer it. But the way it is worded is misleading.

It's disappointing because I have been with them so long, and I really don't know what I'm going to do with my sites now, I just can't trust them with my money, and access to my credit card.

"Annoying Scam Artists"

I started with 5 hosting and domain registrations with Doteasy over the last 10 years. On the whole, I've been fairly satisfied until just recently. There were a couple of occasions where I'd have charges for things I didn't remember authorizing. When you pay your year fees, you've got to pay close attention to the settings you've authorized -- ok, buyer beware, but I think it's sleazy that they play such stupid games as to keep some settings at defaults you've never previously authorized so they can charge for more services. I'd signed up years ago at what turned out to be a higher price than what they now charge. They didn't notify me of the change and kept charging the higher price for who knows how long.

Then they make it near impossible to transfer a domain. The default for a domain is "locked" so no one else can transfer it. But it turns out you can't check it to Unlocked to transfer it yourself. You have to go through a monumentally irritating set of Support emails with them as they keep making offers to stay. They tell you to send them your login and password to the account -- via email -- so they can confirm you're the owner. Say what?! Anyway, I'm currently monumentally pissed at them and will now pull all my accounts as they come due.

My advice: find another honest domain registrar and hosting site.

I have been with Doteasy for years and I have always been happy with their uptime and support. I use WP and Doteasy's team is very knowledgeable with WP - they helped me resolve problems in a timely manner and they even offered to help move my blog form another host to their server when I signed up for my most recent account. Their prices are very reasonable and their plans come with a free domain name, and from what I've heard, as long as you renew your hosting with them, the domain is free. I have had accounts with other hosts but Doteasy is one that I could always rely on for uptime and support. I would definitely recommend Doteasy.

Fraudulent charges, slow servers, poor up time, response from techsup is always a hassle since they do not answer the question asked, they ask their own questions and bypass the problem. 3 months later, I an still fighting for them to release a domain that they locked and which I never authorized for them to lock.

They even charge for services that were never authorized such as hosting and they refuse to refund anything for which they did wrong and illegal.

DotEasy was always my favorite domain and web hosting company. They were always polite and courteous on the phone, and helped troubleshoot problems with servers as they came along. However, I feel that the quality of this company has diminished and it has lost it's small company touch.

Recently, I downgraded the traffic for my mother's art website and DotEasy erased all of my files without any warning. When I contacted them through their website, they denied responsibility and their response was full of typos which was felt rushed and extremely unprofessional. They refused to fix their error and / or offer me some type of compensation.

I no longer recommend DotEasy to anyone looking for a domain / webhost.

After a dispute with Doteasy over their refusal to honor a prepaid hosting plan, I became suspicious of them due the other customers reporting unauthorized charges to their credit cards. I took the precaution of canceling my credit card and advised them not to make any charges to my credit card without my further authorization. They then attempted to charge my credit card for hosting a domain name that had expired and no longer existed. This company does not know the meaning of the word ethics. They seem to think if they tell the same lie often enough it will eventually be believed. Stay away from this company.

Do not make the mistake I did. I typically logged into FTP and email pertaining to my domains, not the DOTEASY home page. Early on, DOTEASY did not require users to specify much in the way of alternate contact information, so if your email was no longer good they would continue to send notices to an account that bounced. Failure of a customer to acknowledge a TOS notice or change of hosting plan does not stop DOTEASY from converting no-cost hosting to a billed-for service.

Having lost rights to a particular domain, I ceased to login to authorize or update a payment method connected to it, nor did I configure a master payment method for all my DOTEASY accounts. Three years later, DOTEASY is STILL charging me hosting fees. I had not updated old billing information so the only way these hosting fees continued to go through was to borrow my last-used payment method from an unrelated transaction!

DOTEASY support in early 2012 indicated I could not obtain a refund on already-paid-for hosting fees. Okay, fine. But what they did not tell me is that they would continue to charge annual hosting fees to the present day, knowing full well the WHOIS record changed to a owner not affiliated with me or their services. DOTEASY support does not volunteer any information on how to discontinue orphaned hosting serves when contacted. Their website does not make it clear how to discontinue a hosting service, either.

If you auto-renew your web domain you are not just consenting to renew the domain registration automatically but also any services that have been attached to it in the past. DOTEASY will send out an email with a title that reads like it is time to renew a domain but the actual content of the message could refer to changes of hosting fees or terms, too. They do not properly title or separate out subject matter to ensure that users do not miss TOS changes.

DOTEASY notices do not specify how long you have to respond and they do not contain clear dates and deadlines for imposed changes. DOTEASY will display hosting plans and invoices if you login, but there is no option to receive a quarterly or monthly summary. There is no readily-apparent means to totally remove a payment method or to decline future hosting services on their website.

DOTEASY does not prompt users who have failed to login for a period of time to review TOS changes that may have occurred since the last known login. If for some reason you need to make an update to a payment method, you will not be allowed to do so without checking a box giving DOTEASY blanket access to use that payment method in perpetuity.

If you host your website on DOTEASY do not configure auto-billing, do not save a payment method and do not send account notifications to a DOTEASY hosted domain/email. Why? Because if you lose your domain registration rights, DOTEASY will continue to email notices to a domain-based email account that you cannot access.

DOTEASY is a dotNASTY outfit.

DotEasy's web hosting service is indeed good.

It is cheap also. They had my website on for free for years, and now that they no longer offer free hosting, it costs close to nothing, really, like 5 bucks a month or someting like that.

And their web tools are not bad. For the time being, I use their Website Creator feature--it allows you to present a half decent website while keeping it a DIY thing.

And the support team gets back to you right away. No go over a million FAQs first, e-mail and they e-mail you back the next day at the most.

I really can't complain.

Doteasy is very patient and kind and will work with you. I have several issues, but one issue was not their fault my brother was dying and I simply forgot to renew wasn't on my mind at that time. I lost my domain name to the sharks out there waiting to pick them up. I was unable to get my original name back, but doteasy was very helpful in trying to get me back on-line I had to pay a few fees for transferring my data to a new domain. I did not know that the basic free hosting was only for a year, which could have been my fault for not reading before I sign the dotted line, either way they have helped me get back on-line even though we had bank issues, and they were very patient waiting for me to get papers signed and I am over a month late in getting them paid.

Doteasy is horrible! I purchased a 2-year domain registration because it came with free hosting. After a year, they were charging $24 for basic hosting which I thought was included since the price I paid to register my domain was considerably higher then your standard pricing.

I decided to find a suitable alternative and allowed doteasy hosting to expire. After it expired, I planned on using the remaining time on my domain and getting hosting somewhere else. Not the case. Doteasy removed all of the previous options in my member account so that I didn't have any access to my DNS to redirect the IP address. I contacted them for support. I got an email shortly after stating that I needed to pay $24 plus a $15 of late fee to receive support. I'm a paid customer with one more year remaining on my domain!!!

In addition, they tried charging $24 to my company credit card when DOTEASY HAD NO AUTHORIZATION to do so. Fortunately the credit card was declined since it does not get funded unless there are scheduled expenses. Currently I'm unable to access my website or get any support from doteasy though I have fully paid my domain. I'm losing money everyday my site is down, getting no support all of while doteasy uses my site to advertise for themselves.

What a piece of work! DOTEASY IS DISHONEST AND NOT TO BE TRUSTED!

Stay away from Doteasy! They will offer a good service for a very reasonable price. Then after a year or multiple thereof (when you no longer need the website), they will send you a very ambiguous email with two options. The intent of the email is unclear and most people will ignore it. If you do ignore the email (like I did) they will take the money out of your account using your credit card details without your permission. The credit card company will tell you that they cannot recover the money. As well as that- try talking to Doteasy, not only will they not give you the money back they will not tell you why they took it. They are basically stealing. I am thinking of contacting the police department in Burnaby. Be warned stay away!!
