Ownership started in 2002, and was purchased by EIG sometime before October 2011. It was a bit difficult to find the details of who owns it and where they operate from since their WHOIS entry is private – quite unusual for a public facing company. But I was able to eventually get the locations of their offices:

13115 NE Fourth Street, Suite 240
Vancouver, WA 98684-5965

Phone Number:

As for ownership, I mentioned before that they were owned by EIG. It’s impossible to get more information about who actually works there, because their corporate team is listed as the following people:

Jeff Fox, Chief Executive Officer
David Bryson, Chief Legal Officer
Marc Montagner, Chief Financial Officer

But these are not specific to because all of them work for EIG! So this is just a general corporate management structure. Nothing personal, and their website reflects it.

Domain Services

As the name implies, specializes in domain services. However, I haven’t heard great things about their service. Domain name transfers in particular seem to be rather convoluted, with some customers being made to wait days before their requests are processed.

This obviously doesn’t show them in a very good light. Moreover, their selection of country based TLDs rather limited, so you might not find the specific country that you’re looking for.

Hosting Services

They have some interesting details about their hosting services which make them stand out. The first is that they supply each business with a free US based toll free number! To my knowledge, no other hosting company does this. It’s unclear however, whether or not you can take that number with you when you move elsewhere. I’m guessing not – and that itself is a major warning sign. You don’t want your business to be locked into a hosting company just because you can’t migrate away your phone number!

One thing of note is that you get a free domain name with each hosting account using the DOMFREE coupon code. Keep in mind though, that this is only for the first subscription period. After that, you pay full price for renewals.

Green Energy Hosting Datacenters

By far the most interesting thing about is its commitment to green energy in its data centers and office, which far exceeds anything I’ve seen with any other provider. They even give websites a special “Powered by Wind Energy” badge that they can put on pages to indicate their commitment.

It’s impressive that they’ve managed to offset more than 100% of their hosting energy emissions by relying solely on wind power. That, along with programs to plant a tree for each new account, make it pretty unique. Of course, all these initiatives are achieved through partnerships with other green energy related firms, so it’s a bit roundabout. But nonetheless, this is good work!

Their datacenters also have cool stuff like seismically braced cabinets and independent power grids. So quite state of the article overall.

VPS and Windows Hosting

Unlike some other providers, also provides Windows hosting – at a slightly elevated price compared to their Linux counterpart. Their VPS plans seem to be a bit lackluster as their RAM provisioning is extremely low compared to others like Bluehost and Hostgator. So I’m not sure how effective it’s going to be if you need the extra power.

They don’t have a dedicated WordPress hosting option either – just normal shared hosting with the ability to install WordPress in one click. No WordPress customized configurations, no special web server, and no extra WordPress specific features. So this is not the hosting provider you’re looking for if it’s WordPress you want.

Finally, they also have a website “drag and drop builder”. I’m not sure how effective it is, and more importantly – can you export your site out of when you decide to move? Make sure you understand that last bit thoroughly before you make a decision!
